Advent Day 1 | 2024 | The Weary World Rejoices
Welcome to Advent—a season of fierce grace and unyielding joy. Stop. Breathe it in. The King has come, triumphing over the grave and reigning on high. Together, let’s follow the trail of His glory, stepping into the story of the Child who broke the back of darkness and carried the weary to freedom. May these devotions be a lantern for your path and a spark for your wonder.
Lift your eyes. Higher. No, higher still. Beyond the rooftops, the towers, the clouds. Lift them past the highest peaks until your neck strains and the weight of your world begins to fall away. There, on the mountain that does not crumble, stands the King.
We are weary creatures, scurrying on tired legs, our burdens strapped to our backs with knots we tied ourselves. The world groans, the kind of groan you hear in old trees before they snap. Sin corrodes, death stalks, and we drag our feet from one hill of disappointment to the next, hoping for something higher, something that will hold. But our feet were made for more than dust and our souls for more than despair. And then comes the cry, the song that cuts through the night: “Behold! Good news of great joy!”
Christ, the High Mountain, stands above it all. His coming wasn’t subtle. He split history like lightning splits a cedar. He shattered the silence of heaven, crashed into a manger, and crushed the serpent’s head with tiny infant toes. The weary world rejoices—not because we’ve solved our problems, not because we’ve earned peace, but because peace Himself has come.
The mountain is not empty. It is crowned with glory. The nations will flow to it—not in forced march, but in a flood of joy. And you, yes you, are invited. You who are heavy-laden, bent low, and tired of your own strength. Stop climbing the hills that crumble. Lift your eyes. Christ has come, and in Him, the weary find their rest.
Prayer:
Lord of the mountain, King of all joy, I come to You with empty hands and a weary heart. Teach me to see the glory of Your Son and to lay my burdens at His feet. Let my heart sing today, even as my knees shake under the weight of this world. In Christ alone is my strength. Amen.
Action Point:
Tonight, step outside. Look up. Find the highest point your eyes can see—the top of a tree, the edge of the moon, the faint streaks of stars—and remember: Christ is higher. The King has come, and you have been called to rejoice. Let the wonder sink in.
