Advent Day 18 | 2024 | The God who Waits

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

2 peter 3:9

God’s timing doesn’t often make sense to us. We see delays as obstacles, unanswered prayers as silence, and waiting as wasted time. But Advent flips our perspective. The God of the universe, who has no need for time, chose to weave His plan through generations, patiently fulfilling His promises at just the right moment.

Think of Israel, waiting through centuries of silence, clinging to the prophecies of a coming Messiah. They didn’t know the exact timeline, but God did. The Child born in Bethlehem wasn’t late—He arrived at the perfect time. And His coming teaches us something profound – that waiting is not wasted when God is at work. His patience isn’t hesitation, it’s mercy.

Advent is a call to trust in God’s perfect timing. The same God who sent His Son at just the right moment is still working in your life, even in the waiting. His delays are not denials; they are opportunities for His grace to unfold.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your patience with me, even when I struggle to wait. Teach me to trust in Your perfect timing, knowing that You see what I cannot. Help me to rest in Your promises and wait with hope, confident in Your faithfulness. Strengthen my heart to endure seasons of waiting, and remind me that Your plans are always good. Amen.

Action Point

Think about an area where you’ve been impatient with God. Bring it to Him in prayer today, asking for trust in His perfect plan.
